Helping Developers Shine (And Providing An Active Talent Pool) With VanHack

VanHack, a talent pool of technologists, has been recognised as a runner-up in the HR Tech World Startup Competition Amsterdam 2017. VanHack’s CEO Ilya and his team help companies hire diverse, talented developers from their community of over 100,000 members around the world. Used by the likes of Accenture, ZenDesk,, Zalando and Xing, VanHack fills the hardest of roles and in turn supports the individual development of those in the talent pool.


Ilya tells me VanHack is joining us at HR Tech World for the opportunity to share their experience and learnings in building a talent community with a broad range of HR professionals. In doing so Ilya hopes organisations consider how they could take inspiration from VanHack’s work to improve their own recruitment initiatives.


But VanHack isn’t only advantageous to employers; it also strives to help those in the tech talent pool. VanHack’s online school works with people on their soft skills, such as English language, CV and career coaching. Ilya explains that VanHack helps people develop their soft skills, focussing on how they can best present themselves, and often the largest challenge for people in the talent pool is communication and confidence.


Far from a directory of talent, VanHack runs online group English classes with native English speakers where the aim is to improve conversational skills and practice answering standard interview questions. The team also reviews CV, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles to advise people on how they can adapt them to the country they want to move on. VanHack’s talent pool has grown into a community as Ilya tells me the Slack group where they discuss common interview topics is very active.


Yet, far from seeing the recruitment, job board and guidance elements as distractions, VanHack takes them in its stride, opting to focus on this specific niche to better source top talent quickly for hiring partners. And, having only been active in Europe for ten months, VanHack has been working with companies including, Zalando and Flixbus to fill their most challenging roles.
